	St. Croix is part of the United States Virgin Islands, located in the Caribbean Sea about 1100 miles southeast of Miami. It is a beautiful island with beautiful people. The history is rich and the culture is diverse. Take a minute to learn a little about St. Croix. Over recorded history, St. Croix has been under seven different nations, the longest being Danish rule, which we still see reminents of on island today. Scattered over the entire island are historic sugar plantation ruins. St. Croix was once an agricultural island that depended on sugar to fuel it's economy. Today- St. Croix is home to one of the largest oil refineries in the southern hemisphere. In addition to oil and gas production, St. Croix does depend on tourism for a large part of their economy. Because St. Croix is a United States territory- we follow the same laws that govern the mainland. We have a representative who sits in Congress, yet can only vote in committee. There is a governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands as well as a senate who create legislation. Our tax system is a mirror stystem to that of the IRS, only we call it Internal Revenue Bureau (IRB). Our taxes stay in our islands and we offer tax incentives for people who bring their business down here. Buck Island Reef National Monument is the ONLY underwater national park in the Caribbean. It is famous for it's beautiful stretch of beach on the west-ward side and the breath-taking snorkeling on the east-ward side. Personal boats are allowed to sail or motor to buck, but there are full and half day excursions from concessions as well. It is a wonderful way for a family to spend a Sunday afternoon. There is so much to see and do above and below the water on St. Croix. For starters, we have the most diverse dive locations than any other Caribbean island. You can dive natural coral reefs, a pier, old ship wrecks and The Wall, which is the deepest trench located. We offer world class golf-courses, dining and shopping.
